CE Category C — what it means

Certified to Design Category C under the Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU): inshore and coastal waters, up to Beaufort 6 (~27 knots) and waves up to ~2 m. Manufacturer’s guidance: reduce sail above ~15 knots — which, with a furling main, is the work of a moment.

Measured performance

Recorded on the water, not theoretical.

  • Upwind: sustained 8–9 knots in fresh wind; tacks through ~90° (points ~45°)
  • Reaching: 8.5 knots close reach in ~12 knots wind; double figures in fresher air
  • At full displacement (~400 kg): up to ~12–13 mph (≈10–11 knots) on a reach
  • Rowing: steady 3–4 knots

Low displacement/length plus high sail-area/displacement ratios put it in racing-class territory — which is why it surfs.

Setup & transport

Trailerable, kept at home, no marina berth. Rigged and launched in ~20 minutes. The unstayed 6 m mast (~12 kg) is stepped and unstepped single-handed in under ten minutes.

Options

  • Carbon mast
  • Camping / boom tent (in development)
  • Light alloy boom (sail still furls)
  • Additional ballast (2×30 or 2×50 kg) for displacement cruising
  • Cover, trailer, accessories
